Overhaul Definitions
Repad — Full cleaning (COA) + all new pads.
Overhaul — Repad + all original material replaced (corks, felts, anything that isn’t metal). May include some minor key fitting, soldering, all tone hole leveling, and dent work. Does not include wood cracks or wood finishing.
Mechanical Restoration — Overhaul + all key tolerances tightened (includes all dent work, soldering, and wood cracks/finishing).
How to Determine Which Overhaul is Necessary
Key Noise + Newer Pads + Minimal Key Wear = COA
Key Noise + Old Pads + Minimal Key Wear = Repad
Key Noise + Old Pads + Key Wear = Overhaul OR Mechanical Restoration (depending on the severity of the repair)
